Primary Goal

Since its inception in 1978, the primary goal of the Cell Biology Core has been to provide researchers within the Vascular Research Division with a range of well characterized cultured cells from both vascular and non-vascular sources. Core members also work closely with researchers to develop new cell culture systems, as needed, to facilitate the scientific goals of both individual investigators and the Division as a whole.

Functions

  • Provides and maintains a variety of well characterized cultured cells
  • Quality control testing of key biological reagents
  • Provides training in general cell culture methods
  • Provides training to new personnel for dealing with biohazardous biological material
  • Provides access to a fluorescence microscopy /computerized image analysis system
